Break-Ups
So many people do not know how to break-up
properly. Break-ups themselves are associated with negative connotations, bad
emotions and Hollywood movie drama. Yet they do not have to be. Especially for
teenagers and young adults, break-ups are a source of stress, loathing, and low
self-esteem. It often seems that the only way to break up is to do so
violently. No wonder so many choose to break-up over texting or facebook – with
all these negative impressions of it flying around, it’s a frightening
prospect! A break-up does not have to be all that bad though. There is little
doubt that it will almost always be painful, especially for those in their
first relationship or those who have been together a long time. But a break up can
result in not two mortal enemies wanting to rip out the other’s throat, but
friends. A key part of accomplishing this is understanding that a) it is
nothing personal and b) once the relationship is over, it is done for good.
While either member in a relationship or both may be at fault, it is important
to take what one can from the experience and move on. Too often people dwell on
their own mistakes or their partner’s short-comings which results in a stew of
hate. Especially in the case where one recognises their own mistakes (real or perceived)
they may try to correct their mistakes and reinitiate the relationship with a partner.
Unfortunately by then, the partner has already lost interest, and even if they
do grant another chance, bad habits are not so easily changed. It is not so
much the problems in a relationship that cause separation but the partner’s accommodation
to the problem. Of course, there are many variances in the cause for break-up;
sometimes for example they require forgiveness and understanding of the other
party. In other cases, the relationship is damaged beyond repair, even
platonically. In that scenario, it is best for both persons to cease all
contact with each other. Any further communication, though perhaps friendly on
the surface, bears hidden knives.
